The city of Barcelona, with its sunny location on the Mediterranean, famous Gaudi architecture, top nightlife, abundance of culture, and wonderful restaurants, has become one of the most popular destinations in Europe for a city break, with many people returning there regularly, and a significant number of Europeans considering Barcelona as a place to relocate to.

Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia, an area which now comes under Spain, but which has its own language and culture.

One of the sights for which Barcelona is so famous is the still-unfinished Church of the Sagrada Familia, designed by Art Nouveau architect Antoni Gaudi. There are many other works of Gaudi about the city, including the fantastic Park Guell, which is a wonderful park to relax in, while enjoying distinctive architecture. The city has an impressive Gothic Quarter, where the buildings date back to medieval times.

Barcelona has lovely beaches, which makes the city ideal for combining a city break with a sunshine holiday of swimming and sunbathing.

As for nightlife, Barcelona has a variety of nightclubs devoted to all kinds of music from techno to jazz. The beautiful tree-lined boulevard through the city center, known as Las Ramblas, is the place that everybody heads for, strolling up and down, while deciding which cafe, bar or club looks the most interesting. Be careful though, the southernmost end of Las Ramblas becomes a little seedy late at night.

Barcelona has a great number of wonderful museums, including the National Museum of Art of Catalonia, and the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art.

Barcelona has all standards of accommodation, from top hotels to reasonably priced bed and breakfast establishments, and there are numerous packages available.

So, head to Barcelona for the art, architecture and culture of a great city, as well as the relaxing beaches of a Mediterranean location.
