Vienna, the capital of Austria, and its largest city, is famous for its long artistic traditions, and cultural sophistication, being particularly highly regarded for its music, theater and opera. Vienna has long been regarded as being the capital of European classical music, with such great names as Mozart, Beethoven and Strauss having associations with the city.

With a considerable number of universities, institutes and international schools, Vienna also has a fine intellectual tradition, and was the birthplace of such great scientists as Lise Meitner and Ludwig Boltzmann.

Vienna is on the famous River Danube, and in the city itself there are twelve bridges crossing the river.

Reflecting both the aesthetic and scientific traditions of the city, Vienna has a number of museums, both artistic and technical, many of which are located in Vienna’s Museum Quarter.

The city itself has a range of architectural styles, including classical, modern, Romanesque, Baroque, Art Nouveau and other styles. Of particular note is the wonderful Baroque facade of the Karlskirche (St Charles’s Church).

Vienna is especially renowned for its elegant cafes, where customers will sit sometimes for hours over one cup of coffee reading the newspaper. If coffee is not enough, there are also delicious desserts available, such as fabulous cakes, and fruit tarts with cream.

Vienna is clean and safe, and there is good public transportation to get you about the city and its environs. The climate is moderate and mild, ranging from 20-30 degress Celsius in the summer, and hovering around freezing point in the winter.
